  8. The "OT Advanced Tuner" is a simple control panel like application
  9. that allows you to optimize TCP/IP network performance under
  10. Macintosh Open Transport by tuning internal TCP/IP parameters
  11. to match your network environment. The Tuner supports over 30
  12. adjustable parameters including the TCP Window Size, Time Out
  13. intervals, Maximum Segment Size, and MTU.
  14.  
  15. You can save your settings in OT Advanced Tuner settings
  16. documents and invoke them each time you startup by placing
  17. the corresponding document in your Startup Items folder.
  18.  
  19. As currently implemented, the OT Advanced Tuner is best
  20. suited for configurations where TCP/IP is permanently
  21. loaded since there is no automatic way to remember custom
  22. settings when TCP/IP is unloaded (TCP should not be set to
  23. "load only when needed" as commonly used for dial-up
  24. connections).

  27.  MacOS 7.5.3 and Open Transport 1.1.1 or later
  28.  
  29. Installation and Use
  30. To install the application, simply copy it to your hard
  31. drive. Click on the question mark in the lower left corner of
  32. the tuner window for basic operating instructions.
  33.  
  34. For more information on how TCP/IP works and TCP tuning parameters,
  35. may I suggest : "TCP/IP Illustrated, Volume 1" by W. Richard Stevens;
  36. and "Tips for TCP/IP monitoring and tuning to make your network sing",
  37. by Adrian Cockcroft. Notice Solaris networking is very similar to Open
  38. Transport since it is also based on Mentat Portable Streams and Mentat/TCP.

  40. OT Advanced Tuner "settings documents" are text files you can easily edit.
  41. The OTTCPSlowLinkTuneup file included as an example performs the same
  42. function as the "OTTCPSlowLinkTuneup" patch that was distributed a while
  43. back. Any parameters not in the file are set to their default values.

  48. Registration and Licensing
  49. OT Advanced Tuner is commercial software subject to the
  50. terms of the accompanying License Agreement. You may use a
  51. trial version of the software during a single trial period
  52. of up to 21 days. You must then register the software if
  53. you wish to continue using it beyond the trial period.
  54.  
  55. Notice the trial is designed to expire after 21 days.  If the
  56. software reports it has expired, this usually means someone ran
  57. a previous version of the program on your computer.  Please
  58. contact me directly for information on how to reset the
  59. trial period.

  61. Once you have downloaded the application, there are 3 basic
  62. ways to register:
  63.  
  64. (1) Register on-line by pressing "WWW Registration Page"
  65. in the About Box for the OT Advanced Tuner Application. 
  66. You need to have a web browser running (Netscape Navigator
  67. or MS Explorer) and a valid credit card number.
  68.  
  69. (2) Use the supplied Register application to fill-in a Kagi
  70. registration form.  Follow the instructions on the form to
  71. email, fax, or postal mail your registration to Kagi. Most
  72. common forms of payment are acceptable including personal
  73. checks.

  75. (3) For site license registrations, I can fax your company a
  76. proforma invoice.  Please contact me directly at

  79. In each case, a program registration code that unlocks the
  80. demo startup screen and expiration will be sent to you by
  81. email once your payment is received.
